The days grow long the nights grow short The target date draws nigh. And soon the verdict will come in For Green Card I did try. For many months in endless wait The paper work so cruel My application sent in late I followed every rule. And so I wait impatiently Amongst the great unpaid My funds they dwindled gradually I hope I'm not betrayed! But now the day of judgment nears It's only days away. And soon at last I can relax Before my hair turns gray. For five long years my faith has held To stay here one more day. And soon for me the just deserts They'll say that I can stay. This is a land that offers much For those from overseas As long as they have done no wrong She'll listen to your pleas. And then at last you get the Green You're freedom's guaranteed. To work each day, and then to play In anyway you please. This land of promise still shines strong Your hopes to be fulfilled And in the daily bustling throng With peace your mind is stilled. |
